Laser Therapy

Laser-Therapy

People whose functions and movements are impacted by any disease, surgery, accident, or injury, consult a physiotherapist. Although physiotherapy involves physical exercises yet a physiotherapist’s treatment is not limited to this. They use advanced physiotherapy procedures which include LASER Therapy.

LASER means “ Lights Amplification from Stimulated Emission of Radiation”. Laser therapy is used for improving soft tissues healing. This heals acute and chronic conditions. It is an application of red and infrared light over injuries. This treatment is used by physiotherapists for the relief of pain, to decline inflammation, and accelerate the healing process.

What is LASER Therapy?

Laser light is monochromatic, collimated, and coherent and the LASER therapy is done using a device that produces such light. With this, physiotherapists treat musculoskeletal injuries, and chronic & degenerative conditions to heal wounds. There are two types of LASERS – High laser and Low laser.

Laser power with output power greater than 500mW or 0.5 watts is known as High Power Laser Therapy. HPLT creates heat on the surface of the skin due to its higher power density.

Low Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is used to treat various musculoskeletal conditions. This is a treatment with a non-invasive light source that generates a single wavelength of light, effective in reducing pain. This emits no heat, sound, or vibration and is completely safe to use. LLLT acts as an anti-inflammatory agent and accelerates connective tissue repair.

How Does It Work?

The physiotherapist will place the light source against the skin. The photons penetrate several centimeters and get absorbed by the mitochondria. The high-power diode laser could help in respiration thus, it is a good performance therapy. The process is painless, effective, and non-invasive to use. The device will only touch your skin and will not harm you in any way. No vibration or heat will be felt.
